"Cost effective use of Lighting Designers"

Abstract:

This presentation will show a very cost effective methodology of using a lighting designer for large scale developments. The methodology will be explained from an existing project in KSA for the municipality of Dammam, King Abdullah Civic Centre. The project consists of a 530,000 sq. meter development on reclaimed land in the bay of Dammam. It is a mixed use development with parks, conference halls, shopping malls, hotels, amphitheater, museum etc.

Studio Lite is the lighting designer for all outdoor areas, Zuhair Fayez the architect, the municipality of Dammam the client.

The methodology
Studio Lite has designed a concept and design vision for the area. After this we zoomed in on key areas and designed the typical lighting layout and product selection to handle the vastness of the project. By doing this we provided the architects with detailed snapshots of each key area that could be implemented throughout the whole area. It’s like a recipe book where the lighting designer gives the architect the ingredients and the architect can bake the cake, with some assistance from the designers.

Short Pforile:

Born 1970, in the Netherlands

Juliet’s approach to lighting is inspired by natural lighting examples discovered in everyday life. Daylight is dynamic, it changes colour and intensities, it sparkles and it is the best human light. It is her goal to create inspirational environments with an integrated approach of day light, artificial light and architecture.

Graduated in 1995, Juliet has a master degree in Industrial Design Engineering from the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. She was born in a lighting family; her father was part owner and founder of the third largest lighting trading company in the Netherlands, Brite Lite.

Professional History

Juliet started working as a young product engineer at Brite Lite. Here she became specialised in lighting. She has developed many patented lighting products recognised for their innovative value on energy efficiency. After four years she shifted to become involved in worldwide lighting research projects when she was working for five years as a research scientist and later as project leader for TNO: Netherlands organisation for applied scientific research. It was here where Juliet gained experience in lighting design and specifically its influence on humans. She has been a key note speaker for many international conferences and coached architectural graduate students in the field of lighting. In 2006 she came to Dubai to work in this fast growing hub of the Middle East and become involved in landmark and specialized lighting design projects with her own lighting design company Studio Lite.
