Short Profile of the Person: Prior to joining EWS-WWF, Tanzeed spent two and a half years working for the Royal Society in London (the UK's independent national academy of sciences) in energy, environment and climate change policy. His work entailed providing independent science-based policy advice to the UK government, the European Union, and international organizations. During his tenure he worked on the following projects, among others; biofuels for transport, clean coal and carbon capture and storage, global climate change and related policies, the economics of climate change, nuclear power and radioactive waste management policy and marine policy. Tanzeed also spent a year working with CarbonSense, an independent organisation which helped businesses understand what climate change means for them and to develop a business case for tackling climate change. This included working with major organisations such as GlaxoSmithKline, Imperial College London, the UK’s Treasury and the Carbon Trust. As a project coordinator for Asociacion ANAI (a Costa Rican NGO) in 2003, Tanzeed managed a marine turtle conservation project on the Caribbean coast. He was responsible for training volunteers on conservation policies and practice, conducting conservation science research for leatherbacks, green turtles and hawksbills, as well as working with the local community and government officials to ensure the project ran smoothly. He holds an MSc in Conservation from University College London and a BSc (Honours) in Zoology from the University of Edinburgh.
